We share the news of Daryl Brock's passing with deep sadness. Daryl was not only the founding Executive Director of FARSB but also a remarkable individual who left a lasting impact on our organization and the community.
Daryl's journey began in Carlsbad, New Mexico, but it was in Riverside, California, that he truly made his mark. He arrived in Riverside in 1960 and embarked on a journey that would see him serve his country and his community in remarkable ways.
Daryl's dedication to serving others extended beyond his military service with the Navy, as he assumed the CEO role for both the Survive Food Bank and the Second Harvest Food Bank for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, dedicating a memorable 33 years to our organization.
In the Navy, Daryl played roles on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) aircraft carrier and the USS Nathan Hale 623 submarine, demonstrating his commitment to duty and service. His dedication to helping those in need would become a defining trait, shaping his future endeavors.
Daryl's legacy is marked by his instrumental role in establishing critical corporate partnerships and advocating for policy improvements that bolstered USDA programs. As our organization evolved and adapted over the years, Daryl's unwavering passion and dedication helped shape us into the food bank we are today.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Daryl was known for his passion for genealogy and trains. He remained active in various veteran groups, particularly the submarine veterans' community and Veterans Without Families.
